A club of industrials

The GRETh, Groupement pour la Recherche sur les Échangeurs Thermiques, has been federating a group of manufacturers of more than 100 manufacturers whose activities include the manufacture of heat exchangers and thermal equipment, engineering studies for thermal installations in industry and the building sector, and the operation of energy production and conversion sites. Most of the group's industrial members are led by the desire to develop or integrate innovative components, in particular heat exchangers, and develop advanced methodologies to achieve significant gains in the energy efficiency of industrial systems.

To support its members in their efforts, the GRETh has set up a support strategy and actions with these manufacturers within the framework of an original structure enabling carry out missions of collective interest, as well as specific services.

The GRETh carries out collective-interest missions made possible by the pooling of industrial memberships :

  • technology watch to its members through the dissemination of scientific and technical results obtained from research and development programs in the field of heat exchangers and, more generally, industrial thermal systems;
  • wide distribution of public information (thesis, technical reports, state of the art, patents... etc.), through various means ranging from conferences to a regularly updated website;
  • connecting innovation actors (research institutes, industrials) through technical days and conferences;
  • specialized training course engineers and technicians in advanced methods for designing and sizing thermal equipment;
  • works and numerical calculation tools allowing you to deepen your knowledge and carry out calculations and dimensioning.

This approach is complemented by technical and scientific support to these industrial players within the framework of bilateral contracts that comply with confidentiality and liability obligations specific to technical consultancy assignments.

The feedback from this structure, dedicated to the technical and scientific needs of industry, enables us to assess the risks involved, but also the remarkable opportunities offered by innovation projects carried out in particular by small and medium-sized companies in the energy equipment sector.

This experience also shows the urgent need to develop and maintain structures with strong technical skills to provide effective support to industrial sectors.

 

GRETh's operating principle : Members decide!

The annual membership fee paid by each member creates a financial fund which is used to finance actions carried out by GRETh for the benefit of its members and in the scientific and technical fields that are its core business.

The Board of Directors, made up of directors elected by the Annual General Meeting from among the association's active members, helps define GRETh's strategic developments and orientations in the light of the needs expressed by its members. All the actions proposed by the Board are then put to the vote of the Annual General Meeting, which approves or rejects them. Once approved by the AGM, human and financial resources are committed and allocated to the priority actions that have received the most votes from members. Each year, the association's industrial members decide on the projects and collective actions to be carried out by GRETh.

Today, a limited number of companies can afford to have an R&D structure to carry out the innovation programs they need to ensure their long-term survival. The GRETh team has more than 30 years' experience in this field, provides a support interface for R&D engineers from member companies; it's an important part of his daily activity.

In addition, GRETh invests the bulk of its membership budget in resourcing knowledge, enriching databases, providing information and news on research and technology, making digital heat exchanger sizing tools available, obtaining preferential rates for training, and organizing the Journées Techniques du GRETh, which remains a key national event on the subject of heat exchangers.

Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting
Each GRETh member has a representative who votes at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to express, among other things, their development priorities among the program and activity objectives presented at the AGM (activities are carried out throughout the year by GRETh staff). The development priorities are the result of a vote by the representatives of each member company at the AGM.

DOCUMENTS

Thesis
GRETh experts select thesis deemed relevant and/or particularly innovative, concerning the development of new methods and technologies in heat exchangers and systems. Thesis present the state of the art on questions that are often relevant, by presenting the essential existing literature on a given subject and its location, in principle, at the cutting edge of fundamental or applied research: thesis thus offer interesting and often free access to high-level knowledge.

Technical reports
Access to all technical reports from the GRETh database. These documents include state-of-the-art heat exchanger coefficient calculation methods written by GRETh experts, as well as study reports based on the results of collective research programs conducted by GRETh since its creation.

Publications
Selected by GRETh, you will have access to a collection of national and international scientific publications meetings on heat exchangers in order to identify scientific advances on subjects such as methods of calculating transfer coefficients and pressure drop, methods of intensifying exchanges, fouling processes and associated cleaning methods, the effects of degradation of exchanger performance over time, heat storage materials, etc.

Patents
Analysis of patents of a particular field is often a good starting point for learning about technological innovations, but also for understanding and analyzing the delicate issues surrounding development. GRETh therefore provides its members with a selection of French, European and worldwide patents available online, focusing on heat exchangers (two-phase distribution devices, innovative assembly processes, etc.), storage devices, heat recovery or recovery equipment.

Technical days presentation
Access to all presentations and posters produced during GRETh technical days.
The technical days are one of GRETh's major events: during these days, GRETh displays a program of oral presentations by industrialists and laboratories to showcase their innovative products, the results of research programs... etc.

Preferential rate on Technical Days
Being a GRETh member also means benefiting from preferential or even free rates (depending on the type of membership "ESSENTIEL" or "PREMIUM"), at key events such as the GRETh technical days.
The technical days are one of GRETh's major events: during these days, GRETh displays a program of oral presentations by industrialists and laboratories to showcase their innovative products, the results of research programs... etc.

TRAINING COURSES

Preferential rate of Training Courses
The training course is an essential tool for acquiring, maintaining and enhancing the skills of its staff, particularly for new recruits, but also for R&D staff, a field which requires a high level of updating. It is in this context that the GRETh offers training courses at reduced rates (for its members) in an effort to minimize costs for GRETh for training while maintaining a high level of quality (training provided by partners and experts GRETh).

The GRETh is also registered as a training organization with the DIRECCTE from the Rhône-Alpes region to enable you to benefit from training courses under the CPF.

GRETH TOOLS

e.Book access
The offer e.book is first and foremost a thermal engineering book available online. Produced by GRETh's experts and partners, it consists of a series of regularly updated volumes covering most aspects of heat exchangers and related operating issues.

EchTherm
The offer e.book also includes the provision of a digital tool, EchTherm, it includes more than a hundred calculation sheets, and serves as a tool for technology selection, exchange coefficient and friction factor calculations, heat exchanger sizing modules, as well as small tools to make everyday life easier for thermal engineers.

News suggestion
A member can suggest a news broadcast which will be published on the public section of the GRETh website and in our newsletter. It may concern the launch of a new product range, software, major events, presence at a trade show... and so on. This news will be formatted, published and indexed on GRETh networks : It's a good way to get yourself known and recognized.

Event suggestion
A member can also suggest broadcasting an event conference, trade show or training course that will appear in the calendar of the GRETh website with the possibility of displaying all the information and details required for this event (subject, date, location with automatic mapping, price, currency, link, etc.).

GRETh expertise service

Membership of GRETh entitles you to one day's service. Beyond this day, and for expertise requiring more time, invoicing will be considered. Members also benefit from a preferential rate for the study day.
GRETh can be entrusted with any type of contract in the field of heat exchangers and, more generally, for all industrial thermal systems (verification of calculation notes, dimensioning and calculation assistance, document searches, establishment of the state of the art, search for partners/suppliers, conceptual development of test bench architecture, development of experimental protocols, data analysis, expert appraisals, validations, etc.).

Technical & scientific hotline (e-mail & telephone)
Being a GRETh member means benefiting from year-round technical-scientific assistance from a competent team who are at your disposal to provide a support interface : this is an important part of their day-to-day activity to assist or support you in various aspects of your business.

.GRETh team can, for example, provide you directly with the information you need (calculation problem, document search, general information on exchangers, etc.), or direct you to service providers (GRETh members or not) who are better placed to deal with your request.

 

GRETh Expertise

GRETh can be entrusted with any type of contract in the field of heat exchangers and, more generally, for all industrial thermal systems. (studies, tests, expert reports, validations, etc.), either from its members, or from any French or Foreign third party, institutional (especially EU), public or private, without positioning itself specifically in the competitive sector.

For GRETh membership, one day's service is taken into account, but for expertise requiring more time, invoicing is envisaged.

GRETh has already supported numerous research projects and is regularly entrusted with assignments such as : Search for documentation on a specific subject and produce state-of-the-art documents.

GRETh, through its more than 30 years' experience in the field of thermics and the wealth of its own database, as well as a multitude of accesses to scientific databases, has access to a substantial bibliography and focused on the requested topic, such as research and conceptual development of test benches.

GRETh's privileged links with industry (current and former members) and research laboratories mean it can find a host structure for test campaigns.

  • Conceptual design of test bench architecture (general design, thermal loop, definition of geometric quantities, choice of heat transfer fluids/freezers, choice of technologies and auxiliaries, choice of measurement sensors and layout rules, quality control of the metrological chain);
  • Development of test protocols ;
  • Analysis and processing of results - Drafting of a summary report on the test campaigns.

In addition to supporting research programs, GRETh is regularly entrusted with expert appraisals on heat exchanger calculations, such as :

  • Advice and assistance with exchanger technology selection for specific processes ;
  • Performance verification on heat exchangers (All technologies: tubes and shells; plates and gaskets; finned coils, etc.) ;
  • Sizing heat recovery systems (on liquid or gaseous effluents).

As a result, GRETh is entrusted with numerous missions relating to its know-how and the quality of its services.
