Technical Manual

This handbook, reserved for GRETh members, is made up of fact sheets on various subjects relating to heat transfer. It is as much a collection of correlations (friction and heat exchange) as it is of methods that can be easily used by designers to dimension thermal installations. The technical manual is divided into four categories :

• Technical - T - Volumes 1, 2, 3
• Sizing tools - O - Volume 3
• Descriptives - D - Volume 3

The Technical Sheets are the essential part of the manual. They provide the basic information needed by non-specialist designers to dimension thermal systems. Each data sheet deals with a specific situation, whether geometric (circular or rectangular channel, finned tube, tube bundle, etc.) or thermohydraulic (single-phase, two-phase, evaporation, condensation). Readers will easily find the correlation best suited to their specific problem, and will be able to carry out an initial exercise using the proposed numerical application. Finally, the bibliographical references listed will serve as a starting point for those wishing to delve deeper into a particular subject.

The Sizing Tools sheets present calculation methods for certain heat exchangers, which can be used directly by manufacturers and incorporate the knowledge developed in the technical data sheets (shell-and-tube, plate and heat-pipe exchangers).

The Descriptive sheets form the fourth part of the manual, and present a review of the various heat exchanger technologies available on the market.

This technical manual has been drawn up by GRETh engineers, with the collaboration of University professors for certain sheets.
