Présentation
Thermal Design Solutions (TDS) is a Luxembourgish company founded in 2019 by Dr. Fadil Ayad. The company's founder and TDS partners have extensive experience in the automotive thermal industry.
They worked for thermal TIER-1 automotive suppliers, ... voir plus covering all aspects of the development of thermal systems and heat exchangers: market and customer needs analysis, R&D, specifications analysis, product design, sizing, simulation, durability assessment, and the manufacturing process. They were involved in major successful projects related to thermal and refrigeration systems, heat exchangers, and front-end cooling modules with car makers. They also actively participated in launching new heat exchangers for the automotive industry, such as liquid-cooled charge air coolers, liquid-cooled condensers, and R744 (CO2) heat exchangers.
Since its creation in 2019, TDS has supported various companies, mainly in the automotive industry, energy storage and conversion, and household refrigeration. The electric vehicle revolution has attracted new players in the automotive sector's thermal field, pushing existing automotive companies to develop thermal activities. Thanks to its high thermal expertise, TDS supported these companies in developing their know-how and winning businesses in the automotive thermal sector.
Below are the main achievements of TDS:
- A successful development and sizing of a front-end cooling module (fan and heat exchangers) that will equip a major car maker's new electric vehicle platform. This project was achieved in the scope of TDS's support to a major European non-thermal automotive TIER-1 supplier to develop its thermal activities.
- Support a worldwide Chinese company in developing its European automotive thermal activities and ecosystem. The TDS support was in different aspects: bringing know-how in heat exchangers and CO2 heat pump systems, launching projects with European academic institutions, organizing workshops, etc.
- Development and licensing of a heat exchanger simulation tool called HEXsim (for more details, please see the attached presentation)
- Development and supply of CO2 heat exchanger prototypes for a major European automotive company.
Activité(s) principale(s)
The company offers the following services:
- Engineering services & consulting in thermal applications: Design, simulations (1D/2D, FEA & CFD), sizing of heat exchangers (abbreviation: HEX), development of thermal/refrigeration systems, ... voir plus scientific & technical economic studies, and training.
- We support you in developing any compact heat exchanger from scratch until mass production and front-end cooling modules: design, sizing, 3D models and drawings, durability assessment, and manufacturing process.
- We develop various heat transfer surfaces: louvered fins, offset strip fins, dimple tubes, multi-port tubes, and plates (chevron or finned). Our development takes into account the manufacturing constraints.
- We offer numerical studies through CFD and FEA (Finite-Element Analysis).
We support the development of various thermal systems, such as refrigeration/heat pump systems, organic Rankine Cycle systems, and waste heat recovery systems. We also perform technical-economic studies and optimization.
- Development of heat exchanger simulation tools: HEXsim (compact Heat EXchanger simulator) and EvapSkin (skin-type evaporator simulator for refrigerators & freezers).
- HEXsim is a valuable tool for sizing and simulating any automotive heat exchanger (more generally compact heat exchangers): single-phase flow, two-phase flow, tube and fins, plate type, and various types of fins.
- It is based on state-of-the-art heat exchangers (theory and practice) and the fruit of more than 20 years of experience in developing automotive heat exchangers.
- It covers various fluids and refrigerants, including R744 (CO2) and R290 (Propane).
- It offers a very friendly user interface, flexibility in the geometry, the ability to simulate front-end cooling modules, various types of minor pressure drops are estimated (bends, contraction, tanks, manifolds….), simulation of louvered fins via a robust CFD-based method,
- Supply compact aluminum brazed heat exchanger prototypes or small-series (with our partner) and develop the manufacturing process. We handle the sizing, 3D model creation, drawings, durability assessment, and manufacturing process.
-Training (online & onsite): Front-end cooling module, heat exchangers, fundamentals in refrigeration systems, Quality Management System, and related automotive tools (PPAP, APQP, PDP).
- Targeted industrial sectors: Automotive, Aeronautics & Space, Refrigeration (household and commercial), energy storage (via thermal storage with Carnot batteries)
